Kappakandara

v.l. Kappukandara.– A village, river, and monastery, all of the same name. The village was the birthplace of Bharaṇa, one of Duṭṭhagāmaṇī's generals (Mhv.Xxiii.64). On the river was a ford called Javamāla, crossed by Duṭṭhagāmaṇī while fleeing from his brother Tissa (Mhv.Xxiv.22). According to this context, the river must have been in Rohaṇa, and Geiger (Mhv.Trs.165, n.5) thinks that it is probably identical with the modern Kumbukkan-Oya.

The Mahāvaṃsa Tika (p.593) says that Malaya Mahādeva came to Kappakandara Piyaṅgudīpa to receive alms from Duṭṭhagāmaṇī.

According to the Rasavāhinī (Ras.ii.160) the village was near Cittalapabbata-vihāra.
