Sūratissa
King of Sri Lanka (187-177 B.C.). He was the younger brother and successor of MahÄsiva. He built five hundred vihÄras, including the Nagarangana, Hatthikkhandha, Gonnagirika, PÄcÄ«napabbata, KolambahÄlaka, Makulaka, Acchagallaka and GirinelavÄhanaka. He died at the age of sixty, after being conquered by the Damiḷas Sena and Guttika. He was called Suvaṇṇapiṇá¸atissa before his accession. Mhv.xxi.3ff.; Dpv.xviii.46f; see also Acchagiri.
