MahÄdhammasamÄdÄna Sutta

On professions and living up to them. There are four ways of professing a Doctrine:
  1. the first is unpleasant at the time and ripens to pain thereafter,
  2. the second is pleasant at the time but also ripens to pain,
  3. the third is unpleasant at the time but ripens to pleasure,
  4. while the fourth is pleasant both at the time and thereafter.

The Buddha then explains in detail these four classes of profession. M.i.309 17.
