Dhammaguttā

1. Dhammaguttā, Dhammaguttikā.– A secondary division of the Mahīṃsāsakas, (Dpv.v.47; Mhv.v.8; Mbv., p.96.) probably an offshoot of the Sabbatthivādins. They had a special Vinaya of their own. According to Tibetan sources,(Rockhill, pp.185, 192.) they were called after their leader, Dharmagupta. Their fundamental doctrines were these: that the Buddha is not comprised in the Saṅgha; that while there is great reward for offerings made to the Buddha, there is none for offerings to the Saṅgha; that a life of brahmacariya exists also among the devas; and that there are worldly laws as opposed to spiritual.
