DevatÄ Vagga/Samyutta/Sutta


1. DevatÄ Vagga.- The fourth chapter of the Chakka NipÄta of the Anguttara NikÄya. A.iii.329-44.
2. DevatÄ Vagga.- The seventh chapter of the same. A.iii.421-9.
3. DevatÄ Vagga.- The fourth chapter of the Sattaka NipÄta of the Anguttara NikÄya. A.iv.27-39.
DevatÄ Samyutta.- First division of the Samyutta NikÄya. It contains records of visits paid to the Buddha by various deities and the conversations which ensued. S.i.1-45.
1. DevatÄ Sutta.- A devatÄ visits the Buddha at Jetavana and tells him of six things necessary for a monk’s spiritual development: reverence for the Buddha, the Dhamma and the Sangha, reverence for the discipline, grace in speech and good friendship. The Buddha reports this visit to the monks, and SÄriputta explains why these particular qualities were mentioned by the devatÄ. A.iii.423.
2. DevatÄ Sutta.- The Buddha tells the monks how, on various occasions, devas had visited him and told him that they bad felt remorse after their death because they had not honoured recluses during their life as human beings. Others who had honoured recluses had obtained happiness. A.iv.390f.
