AssapÄla
The second son of King EsukÄrī’s chaplain. He was born in the world of men at Sakka’s request.
His father had him brought up among the keepers of horses (assapÄlÄ) so that he might not wish to renounce the world.
His brothers were HatthipÄla, GopÄla and AjapÄla. He followed HatthipÄla into the ascetic life and lived on the banks of the Ganges (J.iv.476ff).
He was SÄriputta in the present age (J.iv.491).
