Aggavaṃsa
Thera of Pagan. He wrote a PÄli grammar, the Saddaniti, in 1154 (Gv.63; SvD.v.1238; SÄs.74). He was tutor to King Narapatisithu of Pagan (Bode, 16).
The Gandha-Vaṃsa calls him a native of JambudÄ«pa (p.67), but his name occurs among the famous residents in the retired monastery of the northern plateau above Pagan, the cradle of PÄli-Burmese literature. Forchhammer Report, p.2; Jardine Prize Essay, p.34.
