Printed CopiesI am not able to provide free booklets for everyone who visits my website, but you can obtain a PDF file of the original booklet. From the PDF file you can easily print your own copy. All booklets are formatted for A4 paper with margins of 0.3” (or 0.25” in a few cases). The PDF files were tested on a laser
printer. If your printer has larger minimum margins, or US letter sized paper, you may have to scale the printout down to fit the paper. The booklets are formatted as A6 booklets on A4 pages, i.e four pages to a sheet. All you have to do is: Print the cover page (in colour, or on coloured paper or card if you wish)
Print the odd pages Print the even pages in reverse order on the back of the odd pages Lay the sheets together carefully, and cut the sheets in half using the crop marks on the cover
Collate the pages (by stacking the top half on the bottom half) Staple the sheets together, and Trim the edges.
It takes only five or ten minutes to do this, and you can make as many booklets as you want. Note that the booklets should not be sold, but titles by Bhikkhu Pesala can be given away free without any further permission. To distribute other books, please seek permission from the authors. Graphics and fonts are embedded in the PDF file, so everything should be exactly the same as the original booklets, with correct accents on Pāli words. If you spot any errors, or have trouble printing from the PDFs, please let me know at once so that I can update the file.
You can download PDF files wherever you see the PDF logo. PDF files are uncompressed, as the
space saved by compression is just a few percent. To download several books at once visit the assets directory by clicking on the PDF logo.
To read PDF files you need to install Adobe Reader. You can download the latest
version for your operating system from the Adobe Download Page. To view PDF files in your browser you may need to install plugins (installing the PDF plugin • Opera for Windows).
To speed up the loading of Adobe Reader, try Adobe Reader Speedup. By only loading the plugins that you need, the load time is reduced significantly, though still slower than Foxit Reader. A viable alternative to Adobe Reader is Foxit Reader. This loads much faster, but it has a few defects and limitations. A new version 2.2 is available for download. Annotations are available in
the free version, but an evalution watermark is added to saved files.
A much better alternative to either of the above readers is PDF-XChange Viewer. This has additional features such as annotation of PDF files, and does not add a watermark like Foxit.
Note: Most of the PDF files are formatted for booklet printing, not for reading in Adobe Reader. |
